Court:                        Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta

Date Filed:                August 18, 2020

This proposed class action arises amid COVID-19, whereby many Canadian residents and business owners were forced to close their doors as a result of government-imposed shutdowns, travel has been restricted, and many businesses have lost income. Owners filed business interruption insurance and loss of rental income claims to make up for the losses they experienced.  However, Lloyd’s denied these claims.

The claim alleges that Lloyd’s wrongfully denied coverage for loss of rental income and business interruption.  Our firm together with the Alberta firm of Guardian Law Group LLP are seeking compensation for these denials on behalf of the property owner and other policyholders who have been wrongly denied coverage.

Please see the Statement of Claim for more details.
