Justice for Carson Cleland: Holding Snap Inc. Accountable

RHE is honoured to act for the family of Carson Cleland, who at just 12 years old tragically lost his life after being lured and extorted by a predator on Snapchat.

The lawsuit, filed by his parents with the support of John M. Rice, KC of Rice Harbut Elliott LLP and Claire E Hunter KC of Hunter Litigation Chambers, alleges that Snap Inc. placed profits ahead of safety, ignoring long-standing warnings about the dangers on its platform and failing to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and sextortion schemes.

This case seeks to hold Snap Inc. accountable for its negligence and for prioritizing billions in revenue over the well-being of young users. The law in Canada is underdeveloped on this issue — and this litigation aims to change that.

Carson’s parents have shown immense courage in pursuing this claim, with the hope that no other family will suffer the same unimaginable loss.
